Lumberjacks built modern America. Back then there was no radio-controlled machinery, computer-optimised log cutters or health and safety. It was 200 years before somebody invented the chainsaw. Instead, lumberjacks built the New World’s first settlements by hand. Houses, forts, bridges and churches. And they did it all with some axes, saws and really tough shirts.

170 years since it first appeared we’ve taken the lumberjack’s default uniform and brought it into the 21st century with lightweight Japanese material technology and modern design details. We’ve taken chambray – the earliest workwear fabric – and rebuilt it with highly breathable, high-wicking engineered fibres designed to keep you cool and dry in the heat.

Engineered to keep you cool and dry in the heat

We’ve taken chambray – the original workwear fabric – and rebuilt it with highly breathable, high-wicking, engineered fibres designed to keep you cool and dry in the heat.

Built with the original workwear material

Chambray is one of the earliest workwear fabrics, dating back 500 years to the French town of Cambrai. But after the US Navy authorised its use for sailors in 1901, chambray was quickly adopted by labourers across the US, and its distinctive blue colour is where the term ‘blue collar worker’ comes from. Now we’ve recreated our own lightweight version of the chambray shirt with Japanese material technology and modern design details.

  • It's woven with heat-releasing fibres

    Half of the Lumbershirt is woven with engineered polyester fibres that are designed to release heat and drag sweat away from your body. While normal polyester fibres are constructed with a simple round shape, if you look at a cross section of the fibres in this shirt through a microscope, you’ll see channels running the length of each strand. And it’s these channels that create passageways for heat and moisture to escape.

Highly breathable and high-wicking

The engineered fibres mean that the Lumbershirt is both highly breathable and high-wicking. As sweat is pulled away from inside the shirt it’s able to quickly evaporate on the outside, so you stay cool and dry even when your body heats up.

  • Combined with soft organic cotton

    The other half of the shirt sticks to chambray’s traditional roots, as we combine the cooling polyester fibres with soft cotton. We use organic cotton that’s grown with natural solutions in place of artificial fertilisers and toxic chemicals. Just like the polyester fibres it’s lightweight, breathable and cooling against your skin.

A minimalist chest pocket

You’ll find a pocket on the left hand side of the chest that closes with a single button concealed by a storm flap. The integrated diagonal pleat creates extra space if you need to carry larger items.

  • Built for comfort and movement

    Every detail of the shirt is designed for comfort and ease of movement. Double pleated, two piece sleeves follow the shape of your arm. Double button cuffs let you adjust the tightness at your wrists. And at the hem you’ll find two side vents that keep air flowing and make sure you never feel restricted.
