Sweatshirts aren’t normally known for their breathability, their insulating properties, or their ability to repel wind, rain and fire. But the 100 Year Sweatshirt is built for the toughest challenges on Earth and is the most weatherproof sweatshirt you’ll find.

While the outside can handle water and flames, the inside is a soft, engineered windproof fleece that keeps you warm, dry and comfortable. The material the 100 Year Sweatshirt is built from is designed to protect you in the most dangerous situations, from flash fires to arc flash, while remaining highly breathable and high-wicking.

The entire sweatshirt is water repellent, built with 4 way stretch, and is 4x more windproof than regular fleece. So you can wear it as a high performance insulation layer, a protective outer layer, or just like a regular sweatshirt.

But the 100 Year Sweatshirt is built for the harshest environments on Earth and is the most weatherproof sweatshirt you’ll find. While the outside can handle water and flames, the inside is a soft, windproof fleece that keeps you warm, dry and comfortable.

Designed for an unpredictable world

It used to be just adventurers or the elite military who would be exposed to perpetual threat. But as risk becomes more commonplace, the clothes on your back need to do more. They still need to be soft, comfortable and warm, but they should be designed with extreme performance capabilities. So all our 100 Year gear is made from materials with properties that normal clothing simply doesn’t have. They’re built to cope with whatever the next century holds.

Fireproof and durable

You don’t expect a sweatshirt to be one of the toughest pieces of clothing you can put on. But the 100 Year Sweatshirt is fireproof, durable and abrasion resistant. Despite this it doesn’t feel like any tough, fire-resistant fabric that’s ever been made before. Instead it’s comfortable enough to spend the rest of your life in.
How it fights sudden fire

The material the 100 Year Sweatshirt is built from is designed to protect you in the most dangerous situations, from flash fires to arc flash. A flash fire is a sudden, intense fire that combines high temperatures and short duration with a rapidly moving flame front. An arc flash is a type of extreme electrical explosion that’s capable of generating temperatures of 19,400°C, which is four times hotter than the surface of the sun and can burn skin and set clothes on fire even at a distance.

Built with Polartec technology

As well as being synonymous with outdoor gear, for the last decade Polartec have been developing flame resistant fabrics for the US military after their uniforms began melting in the intense heat of IED detonations. They work with military partners to develop combat-ready layering systems that protect soldiers from sudden heat sources in hostile territories. Our aim was to let anyone benefit from this technology. So we worked with Polartec to build our 100 Year Sweatshirt from scratch.

4x more windproof than regular fleeces

The inside of the sweatshirt is made from an engineered fleece, and it’s this inner layer that provides the warmth and comfort you want from any great sweatshirt. It has an extremely compact structure that traps thousands of tiny thermal air pockets and makes it 4x more windproof than regular fleeces. It means you can either wear it just like a regular sweatshirt, or as your insulation layer. The tightly woven construction is what adds strength and durability to the sweatshirt, but without compromising on comfort.
An engineered fleece keeps your temperature stable

While the outside of the sweatshirt keeps out the rain, and the inside keeps out the wind, the 100 Year Sweatshirt still lets excess heat and sweat escape easily. It’s highly breathable and high-wicking. So when you start working hard the sweatshirt will let warm air and sweat out, helping your body cool down and keeping your temperature stable.

The outside is water repellent

Our 100 Year gear has always been built to be highly resistant to things like fire, time, water and abrasion. So as well as repelling fire, the 100 Year Sweatshirt also repels water. While most sweatshirts soak through as soon as rain hits them, the outside of the 100 Year Sweatshirt is water repellent. Light rain will simply roll off it, keeping you drier for longer.

The next 100 years won’t look like the last 100

As floods and fires sweep across entire countries, we’re radically underprepared as a species for the speed at which change is taking place. But while we’re entering a new normality, we’re not about to suddenly evolve the ability to resist fire or live back in the oceans. So our survival systems need to adapt – from emergency planning and infrastructure, to our architecture and clothing. Of all of these, clothing is going to be the fastest.

The idea for the 100 Year Sweatshirt was to make it look and feel like a regular sweatshirt. So it’s designed to have a loose, relaxed fit. The inside is a warm, brushed fleece. And the material we use to build it looks and feels just like regular cotton. All of which makes it perfect to chill out in. It just happens to be the toughest sweatshirt ever built at the same time.
