Our 100 Year Sweatpants have always been tough. But these sweatpants are the softest and lightest version we’ve ever made. They’re super stretchy, fleece-lined, breathable, and they come with five pockets to store all your valuables. But the pants are also windproof, abrasion resistant, water repellent, fire resistant, and can withstand temperatures 4x hotter than the sun. So it’s fair to say they’re an upgrade.

The sweatpants combine 4 different layers of technology. The inside of the sweatpants are made from an incredibly dense fleece that’s 4x more windproof than a regular fleece, while the outside of the fabric is a blend of modacrylic and aramid fibres for fire resistance. On top of that there are two coatings. One is a fluorocarbon-free treatment that helps it shed rain and snow. The other fuses high strength polymers directly into the fibres to make the sweatpants highly abrasion resistant.

Our 100 Year Sweatpants have always been tough. But these sweatpants are the softest and lightest version we’ve ever made. They’re super stretchy, fleece-lined, breathable, and they come with five pockets to store all your valuables. But they’re also windproof, water repellent, fire resistant, abrasion resistant, snag resistant, and can withstand temperatures 4x hotter than the sun. So it’s fair to say they’re an upgrade.

They’re windproof, abrasion resistant, water repellent and fire resistant on the outside, and fleece lined on the inside.

The sweatpants combine 4 layers of different technology

Making sweatpants that can do this isn’t easy. In numbers, we’ve spent the last 3 years in R&D working on the 100 Year Sweatpants, and the material alone takes 20 weeks to make. And that’s because it combines 4 different layers of material technology.

Windproof, abrasion resistant, water repellent and fire resistant

Stick the 100 Year Sweatpants under a microscope and you’ll find 4 different layers of technology that start with the material itself. The inside of the fabric is made from an incredibly dense fleece that’s 4x more windproof than a regular fleece, while the outside of the fabric is a blend of modacrylic and aramid fibres for fire resistance. On top of that there are two coatings. One makes the sweatpants highly abrasion resistant, the other helps it shed rain and snow.

Hard-wearing on the outside, soft on the inside

While the sweatpants are designed to cope with some of the most extreme threats the next century might send your way, on a practical level you’ll find the thick fleece lining makes it ultra-soft on the inside, while the high-strength polymer coating makes it incredibly hard-wearing on the outside.

The material the 100 Year Sweatpants is built from was originally developed to protect the military in the most dangerous situations – from flash fires to arc flash. A flash fire is a sudden, intense fire that combines high temperatures and short duration with a rapidly moving flame front. An arc flash is a type of extreme electrical explosion that’s capable of generating temperatures of 19,400°C, which is four times hotter than the surface of the sun and can burn skin and set clothes on fire even at a distance

Flames can’t spread on its surface

Over half the sweatpants are made from extreme-strength fire resistant fibres. More than a third of the material is a fibre called modacrylic, an inherently fire resistant copolymer that’s difficult to ignite and will even self-extinguish. And another 14% is made from aramid fibres, which is the stuff used to make body armour and bulletproof vests. When flames come into contact with the material they can only char it. It doesn’t melt or drip, and flames can’t spread on its surface.

Most high strength, fireproof materials will do a good job of keeping you alive, but a bad job of making you comfortable. These sweatpants change that.

Ultra-soft and breathable with four-way stretch

They’re highly breathable and high-wicking, so when you start working hard it lets warm air and sweat escape. And the pants are constructed with elastane so you can move in any direction without feeling resistance.

Five pockets, including 3 zipped pockets

The pants are equipped with 5 pockets – 3 of them zipped. You’ll find two open pockets at either side of the pants, and inside the right pocket there’s a second hidden pocket. It’s fitted with a water resistant zipper so you can securely store valuables inside it, and it’s big enough to fit a phone.

The pockets are reinforced with ultra-tough Cordura

There are also two angled back pockets fitted with water resistant zippers and protected by storm flaps. All the pockets are lined with ultra-tough Cordura to prevent them from wearing out over time.

Coated with polartec hardface® for extreme durability

The outside of the entire sweatpants is embedded with a highly durable coating developed by Polartec called Hardface®. It’s a patented polymer surface treatment that increases the sweatpants’ lifespan by making them extremely resistant to abrasion and snagging. The high strength polymers are fused directly into the fibres, so the coating can’t be rubbed off or washed out. It feels completely smooth to the touch, and you only know it’s there by the subtle tessellating pattern that’s visible across the surface of the material.

A water repellent coating sheds rain and snow

The outer surface of the sweatpants is also coated with a water repellent treatment to help it shed light rain and snow. The type of coating we use is what’s known as a C0, meaning it’s completely free of any toxic fluorocarbons. This same technology helps the sweatpants to dry out quickly when they get wet.

4x more windproof than regular fleece

The underside of the sweatpants is a soft engineered fleece, and it’s this inner layer that provides the warmth and comfort you want from any great pair of sweatpants. It has an extremely compact structure that traps thousands of tiny thermal air pockets and makes it 4x more windproof than regular fleece. It means you can either wear the sweatpants as your regular chill-out pants, or as your insulation layer in colder temperatures.

Built with polartec technology

As well as being synonymous with outdoor gear, for the last decade Polartec have been developing flame resistant fabrics for the US military after their uniforms began melting in the intense heat of IED detonations. They work with military partners to develop combat-ready layering systems that protect soldiers from sudden heat sources in hostile territories. Our aim was to let anyone benefit from this technology.
