Carbon Fibre Jacket
Engineered with carbon fibre spirals that work like high-strength springs.
- Woven with 180 metres of carbon fibre for strength
- Lightweight, water repellent and breathable
- Extreme four way stretch
We start by engineering 180 metres of carbon fibre filaments into spirals, before wrapping them around an elastane core. Together they work like high-strength springs, expanding and compressing as the jacket stretches and moves. Woven into a visible grid structure, the carbon fibre acts as a ripstop that adds tensile strength and abrasion resistance to a jacket that’s already highly elastic, lightweight and water repellent. And its minimalist track jacket shape makes it versatile in any season.
Technical Details
With an atomic structure stronger than steel, carbon fibre is normally used to reinforce components in missiles, jet engines and the world’s fastest cars.
Every jacket comes with 180 metres of carbon fibre filaments engineered into spirals that work like high-strength springs.
Carbon fibre increases the jacket’s tensile strength
We weave the 180 metres of carbon fibre strands directly into a base material of Nylon and elastane in a grid structure. The strands of carbon fibre run horizontally and vertically throughout the entire jacket. And this carbon fibre grid works like an advanced ripstop, reinforcing the jacket by increasing its tensile strength, abrasion resistance and elasticity.
The jacket’s carbon fibre grid works like an advanced ripstop, increasing its tensile strength and elasticity.
Abrasion resistant, water repellent and breathable
The carbon fibre ripstop works with the Nylon base material to add abrasion resistance, protecting you and the jacket against damage caused by friction. We’ve coated the outside of the material with a water repellent treatment so that light rain rolls off its surface. And the jacket is also fast drying and breathable when you’re working hard.
The jacket is cut in a minimalist track jacket shape, making it versatile and easy to wear through every season.
It's the atomic structure that makes carbon fibre so strong
A single carbon fibre is a long, super thin strand of material around 0.005mm across and composed almost entirely of carbon atoms. These atoms bond together to form microscopic crystals that line up parallel to the length of the fibre. It makes the atomic structure of carbon fibre similar to graphite and graphene – with sheets of carbon atoms arranged in a regular hexagonal pattern. And it’s the arrangement of the atoms that makes carbon fibre so strong for its size.
We’ve taken carbon fibre out of the world of aerospace and military engineering and used it to build the Carbon Fibre Jacket.
Carbon fibre as a composite
Carbon fibres are typically combined with other materials to make a composite. That’s why the classic image of carbon fibre is the black and grey checks on a bike frame or supercar. These are carbon fibres impregnated with a plastic resin and baked to create carbon fibre reinforced polymer. If your jacket was made from that it would be completely solid, so we’ve done something different.
