Full Metal Jacket
Made with 11km of copper and hailed by WIRED as "the virus-killing coat of the future."
Winner of TIME Best Inventions, and hailed by WIRED as “the virus-killing coat of the future,” our Full Metal Jacket is unlike any other jacket on Earth. Next up is a highly limited run of our first ever Gold edition. And you can join the waiting list below.
Billions of years ago, the copper that now makes up 59.5% of every Full Metal Jacket was busy floating around the universe as an interstellar cloud. Over the last few thousand years that same copper became central to the rise of civilisation, creating tools and sterilising water, before enabling modern day communication, transport, and electrical power. And we only jumped into copper’s timeline in the last few years as we started experimenting with materials that could become a building block for intelligent clothing, while offering us disease resistance on Earth and up in space.
With its ‘Mars settler’ aesthetic, the surface of the Gold edition looks computer generated even when you’re next to it in real life – and that’s because the hundreds of thousands of moving copper parts warp and ripple like water in the light. These ultrathin copper yarns are cut out of electrolytic copper rods, and turned into strands so fine they have to be measured with lasers. We then apply a series of very thin coats of lacquer to the yarn to protect the copper from corrosion, before the material enters a 6 day curing process in which it’s scoured, heat-set and dried.
