Planet Earth Cardigan
A stripped-down, tailored piece of high-performance engineering.
- Built from an extra fine Italian Merino wool
- Dense Milano knit construction
- Naturally warm, breathable and antibacterial
- Water-repellent, non-fluorinated fibre finish
Most cardigans are lazy. They’re designed to stay at home. On the couch. Doing as little as possible. But the Planet Earth Cardigan is built a little differently. We’ve taken all the good bits of a cardigan – the softness, the weight, and the comfort – then transformed it into a stripped-down, tailored piece of high performance engineering designed to travel the world.
The entire cardigan is engineered from an extra-fine Merino yarn developed in Italy by Zegna Baruffa – which is considered the Rolls-Royce of Merinos because it combines cashmere-like softness with a silk-like surface and long term structural stability. This is so soft you can wear it next to your skin, but spun so tightly you still get that heavy cardigan feel. The fibres are worsted-spun – which makes them extremely smooth and strong. So this is not a cardigan that’s going to be hanging around your ankles in a year’s time.
Tailored like a jacket, but with the softness of a cardigan, it’s built to work as a high-performance outer layer on its own in warmer weather, or as an insulated midlayer if you’re layering up. It’s windproof, water repellent, breathable, ultrasoft, bacteria killing, elastic, and highly durable.

Tailored like a jacket, but with the softness and the weight of a cardigan.
Why we use Milano knit
Milano knit fabrics have a lighter, denser structure than traditional knitwear. Instead of a single layer of looped wool, the Milano method interlocks two layers. The result is heavier, firmer and way more stable than jersey or standard rib. In a heavyweight Merino knit, that matters. Milano knit Merino maintains stretch but resists sagging, distributes mass, and stops the knit collapsing under its own weight. The Milano construction also gives the cardigan a refined surface. Instead of a loose, chunky texture, it’s smooth and compressed. It means the cardigan sits cleanly and looks more like a smart, knitted jacket than something to collapse in.
The cardigan is windproof, water repellent, breathable, ultrasoft, temperature-regulating, bacteria killing, elastic, and highly durable.
The pockets are anchored into the structure of the cardigan
The cardigan has two zipped side pockets that are anchored into the structure of the cardigan rather than being a decorative afterthought – so they can actually carry weight without sagging or bulging. And the insides are reinforced and finished with Alcantara lining for long-term durability.
How Merino keeps you warm in the cold
Staying warm is all about trapping as many pockets of air next to your body as possible and that’s what Merino is built for. Every Merino fibre is hollow which means you’ll automatically have millions of air pockets trapped next to your skin. And as the natural curl of wool fibres traps more air than straight fibres, the microscopic texture of the fabric itself will also retain heat.
