Built with a highly abrasion resistant material originally designed for compression gear, they stretch like an elastic band, repel water with plant-based technology, and come with laser cut and bonded seams, stitching reinforced with welding and magnetised pockets hidden behind storm flaps. They’re lightweight, softshell adventure pants built to work in all 510 million square kilometres on the planet.

Built from compression fabric they’re crazily resilient and strong

The Planet Earth Pants are built from a material originally designed for compression gear, which makes it incredibly strong. We’ve simply laser-cut it into the shape of non-compression gear, so the strength of the material remains identical, but you have none of the pressure on your muscles. Every inch of fabric has been knitted by 40 needles, which makes it very hard to break. This means that on abrasion tests, which show you how fast you could destroy something on dirt tracks or rocks, it scores 5 out of 5 for toughness.

As soft as sweatpants and hardwearing as a jacket

To build a pair of pants that can work anywhere on Earth you have to start with an exceptional material, so we make our fabric from scratch in Italy. By blending an incredibly high amount of elastane with a super tough nylon yarn, we’ve created a unique knitted fabric – incredibly strong, stretchy, soft and lightweight all at the same time. With millions of microscopic knitted loops, the pants have the same stretch as compression gear, while being as smooth to the touch as a mountain shell.

They’re the stretchiest pants you’ll ever wear

Whether you’re a climber or a yogi, there’s literally no move you can pull where these pants will restrict you. If you were holding a metre of this fabric, you’d be able to stretch it to 1.5 metres in any direction, and as soon as you let go it would instantly return to its normal shape thanks to the huge amount of elastane we’ve used. Stronger and more durable than rubber, the more elastane you blend with another material the more elastic it becomes. The Planet Earth Pants are built with 34% elastane, making them as stretchy as you’ll ever need.

Two large thigh pockets fasten with magnets

As adventures get longer and faster, your kit needs to do more. So while the pants stretch and breathe like the best sports gear, they also have 7 laser-cut pockets large enough to fit a phone, GPS and food. There are two large pockets on the thighs, each constructed with a concealed waterproof zipper hidden beneath a storm flap that fastens down with magnets. The magnets are invisible as they’re bonded inside the storm flaps and simply snap back into place without you having to do anything, making them easy to operate on the move.

Two zipped side pockets to carry your gear

Above the two thigh pockets are two large zipped side pockets. Like every pocket on the pants they’re laser cut and bonded on, so they lie flat against your legs and there are no stitched seams to rub you. We also bond all the zips into the pants to make them flush to the surface, and use rubberised lockable zippers, so once they’re done up they won’t come undone. And while lining in normal pockets is typically made out of cotton which can easily fail, ours is made from the same stretch fabric as the pants.

One back pocket and two hidden pockets

There’s a zipped pocket on the back right seat of the pants that’s large enough to hold a phone, cards and keys. Just like the front pockets it’s fitted with a bonded waterproof zipper and housed underneath a storm flap. There’s also a hidden pocket on the back of the left leg, and a hidden watch pocket on the front right of the pants.

Our idea was to build a pair of pants that would look and feel as comfortable in the city as they would in the jungle, and also work for the journey in between. So they’re as soft as sweatpants if you just want to kick back. The cut and simplicity means you can wear them to the office. The material drinks sweat and leaves you feeling cool, which makes them perfect for flights and long journeys. And the material is strong enough to cope with any adventure in the most extreme terrains on the planet.

Plant technology makes the pants water repellent

For decades, brands have been using toxic fluorocarbons to make their clothing water repellent. But light rain and ocean spray roll off the pants without a chemical in sight. We’ve used a plant-based technology that penetrates deep into the fibres and makes water simply slip off the surface. The same tech makes them fast drying if you end up in heavy rain or a river.

Elasticated and rope tied waist

The Planet Earth Pants are elasticated at the waist and fasten with a metal-tipped rope. The rope is woven through laser cut holes which have been welded for extra strength. The inside of the waistband is soft, highly elastic and high wicking, and there’s a zipped fly.

Invisible tech blocks invisible UV rays

Just like sunblock, fabric can be rated for its ability to reduce your exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet light. The Ultraviolet Protection Factor, or UPF, determines how much more protection your skin would have while wearing that piece of clothing. A UPF rating of 15 for example would give your skin 15x more protection than it would have if it was unprotected. These pants are so densely knitted that the fabric scores a UPF of 50+ which is the highest possible rating, giving you the highest possible protection.
