Off Grid Dyneema Shell

The Off Grid Shell is an all-terrain, all-purpose rain shell for life off grid. Highly windproof and tear-resistant, it has an extremely high strength-to-weight ratio thanks to the Dyneema® composite we’ve used to build it. Originally created in a lab, Dyneema® was used to make high-strength sails for racing out on the ocean, where high strength, low weight, and resistance to UV matters. Today it’s used to make ultra-lightweight high-strength tents and backpacks.

The shell comes with two giant side pockets that wrap around from the front of the jacket, over the hips and all the way to behind your back. You’re going to be carrying stuff all the time when you live off grid, so they’re big enough to carry anything you need to take with you, from tools to plants. If you simply want to keep your hands warm, they’re also fleece lined. There are also two large, angled chest pockets. And all the pockets are kept watertight with storm flaps and waterproof zips.

Rain shells aren’t known for being tough. But if you’re heading for a life off grid, you might as well take the strongest rain jacket there is. You’re far more likely to be carrying knives, axes, trowels, tools or potatoes covered in mud than you are an iPad. So the shell is tear resistant and stain resistant. And the material is so tough that if you ever get tired of the jacket you can use it for other stuff. Got a hole in your bucket? Just cut one of the pockets off the jacket and you’ll be able to use it to repair it. Need some rope? Cut some strips off the jacket.
