Stealth Bomber

When Northrop Grumman unveiled the B-2, better known as the ‘Stealth Bomber,’ it looked like it had arrived from another planet – but that’s only if you actually got to see it in the first place. Known as a ‘flying wing’ it was so minimalist that it didn’t even have a fuselage or a tail. Its engines were buried within its wing to minimise their exhaust signature. It used multi-spectral camouflage that reduced acoustic, infrared, visual and radar signatures. And while it was 69ft long, 17ft high and had a wingspan of 172ft – and there was even a camp bed, a toilet, and space to prepare a hot meal – on radar it was the same size as a bird.

Capable of flying attack missions at 50,000ft and travelling 6,000 nautical miles without refuelling, the B-2 brought in a new era of stealth. So we decided to bring the same high-performance and minimalist design to the bomber jacket. With our Stealth Bomber, we’ve taken the original bomber jacket back to its high-performance roots a century after it was first invented. We’ve rebuilt it with Swiss material technology that’s as strong as our 100 Year gear, and stretches to 1.5x its own length in any direction. It’s also weatherproof, breathable, and comes with minimalist pockets, lockable zips, and bonded detailing.

While most of the B-2 Stealth Bomber is made out of a carbon-graphite composite that absorbs radar energy, our Stealth Bomber is made from incredibly high-strength, high-stretch Swiss material technology that combines phenomenal elasticity and abrasion resistance, with weather resistance and breathability.

The entire bomber jacket works like high-performance sports gear as it’s all made from the same Swiss material technology. The material can stretch to 1.5x its own length in any direction and return to its normal shape as soon as you let it go.

At the same time the material is as durable as our 100 Year gear. And we know this because we measure it in the same way. The Martindale abrasion resistance test is the way clothing is tested to see how quickly it will break down. A mechanical thumb rubs the surface of the fabric repeatedly until the fibres start to break. The test goes up to 100,000 revolutions which is the equivalent of a lifetime of wear and tear. A normal polyester fabric can survive around 25,000 revolutions. The Stealth Bomber easily passes 100,000 cycles of wear.
