Like most men’s clothing, chinos emerged from war. They were slim-fitting, flat-fronted, functional, and most importantly… really really dependable. By 1902, after heavy field-testing, they’d been made an official part of the US Army uniform. Once World War II was over, the guys who’d fought went off to college still wearing them – turning them into an instant hit on the Ivy League campuses. And their reputation was only cemented as a staple of mid-century menswear when they became the standard issue kit for John F. Kennedy and Steve McQueen.

Which is why, 120+ years later, you still don’t need to mess with the design. So we haven’t. Instead we’ve taken pants you’ve always been able to rely on, and woven them with the strongest fibre on Earth… so you can rely on them even more.

While they look and feel like regular chinos, every pair of Indestructible Chinos is made with a blend of cotton and Dyneema® – which is the same stuff used in body armour, arctic ropes and the sides of tanks. Of course you’d never know this just by putting them on. The Dyneema® is woven in with the cotton during the weaving process, so you’ll only ever feel the softness of the cotton, not the strength of the Dyneema®. And they’ve also been garment washed so they feel lived in from day one.

A suit built for time travelling, or going out to dinner

If Tenet and Inception are anything to go by, then we’re still going to be wearing suits in the future – they might just need to be able to cope with time travel and dream hijacking, as well as going to the office and out to dinner. So our Future Suit is an ultramodern, completely weatherproof take on what we used to call a suit.

The Future Suit transforms Merino into a smooth, minimalist, high tech material.

Built from high performance Merino. But not as you know it

While our Future Suit is built from ultrafine Merino, you’d never know it. Merino has its roots in classic suits, but we’ve completely transformed how the wool feels and what it looks like. This is Merino transformed into a smooth, minimalist, high tech material.

Designed to take you from the boardroom to the mountain

To build the Future Suit we’ve retained and enhanced all the high performance properties of Merino – it’s still water resistant, highly windproof and breathable, while killing bacteria and regulating your temperature – but we’ve made it completely smooth and soft against your skin. And we’ve cut it into a design that will take you from a plane to a boardroom to a lunch, to a mountain.

The jacket is 5x more wind resistant than normal Merino and lasts half an hour in the rain before it even gets damp.

The engineering process makes the Merino ultrasoft

The quality of Merino is judged on its ‘micron count.’ This refers to the diameter of an individual fibre measured in microns, or thousandths of a millimetre. The smaller the diameter, the finer the fibre. The finer the fibre, the softer the fabric. The micron count of Merino wool can be as low as 15 – which is the same as cashmere. The spinning process takes the micron count of our Merino even lower, which is why it feels so smooth and silk-like.

Based on the original blouson jackets

Our Future Suit Jacket borrows from the design of the original blouson jacket – a short jacket with a fitted waist that you’ll find in military uniforms from the mid 20th century right up to the modern day. We’ve streamlined the design to make it feel smarter, while keeping the functional details. It gives the jacket a slightly more formal feel making it a good alternative to a suit blazer.

The Future Suit is an ultramodern, high performance travel suit.

Built for travelling light

Both the jacket and pants are super easy to fold and pack down into a bag for travel. At the other end of the journey you can simply pull them out the bag, shake them out and throw the suit on, making it perfect for the times when you need to travel light. The jacket is incredibly smooth and soft against your skin, so won’t scratch you or itch like wool can. And Merino is also naturally elastic so it’s not going to create any resistance.

How the jacket and pants fit

We’ve cut the jacket and pants so that they’re relaxed enough to feel comfortable all day, but smart enough for when you’ve got a dress code to meet. The jacket is fitted but never restricts you, and the pants come with a slight taper towards the bottom of the leg.

Fast drying and insulating even when wet

The outside of every Merino fibre is covered in a natural wax coating which makes it water repellent when you’re outside. At the same time, the Merino acts like a sponge to soak up sweat and spread it over a massive surface area so that it evaporates at high speed. And as Merino can absorb over 30% of its own weight in water and still feel dry, you’ll stay warm and insulated.

Merino also helps regulate your temperature

Merino sheep are bred to survive scorching summers and freezing winters, so the fibres of their wool respond and adapt to the conditions you find yourself in – either trapping or releasing heat depending on the temperature and humidity of your skin. Merino wool has to keep sheep cool even when the temperature goes over 30°C, so the Merino fibre naturally absorbs the moisture from sweat and disperses it to start releasing heat.
