Hemp has been banned by governments, had war declared against it, and been accused of bringing down modern society. But the truth is hemp is one of the most extraordinary plants on Earth. With 4x the durability and 8x the tensile strength of cotton, the Egyptians used it to haul rocks around when they were building the pyramids, and Chinese warlords built their armour from it. Christopher Columbus’s voyage to the New World in 1492 was made possible thanks to the strength of his hemp sails.

From an environmental perspective every tonne of hemp produced removes 1.6 tonnes of CO2 from the air. It requires zero pesticides and very little water to cultivate. And it’s so smart scientists now use it to clean up soil, water and air contaminated with radioactive isotopes after nuclear meltdowns.

As for clothing, the plant’s fibres grow to over 4 metres which makes them incredibly soft yet really strong. It’s breathable, water repellent, antibacterial, UV resistant and biodegradable. So we’re now going back to building clothes out of it in its raw and undyed state.

We start with the softest cotton from the Nile Delta

Life at the equator offers us a glimpse of our future – a world of non-stop sun, heat, humidity and rainstorms. So we’ve built the Equator Shorts to equip you for it. To build shorts that can work in all 40,000km of the equator we start with a world-class base material – a rare cotton called Karnak Menoufi. One of the lightest, softest materials on the planet, Karnak Menoufi is a silk-like cotton that’s only found in the Nile Delta, and only grows in the years when the rain, soil and wind conditions are perfect. And it’s exactly the same material we use to build our Equator Shirt.

Our Equator Shorts have been worn everywhere from Death Valley California and the Australian Outback, to the deserts of Oman.

We turn cotton into a high performance material

While Karnak Menoufi is already extremely soft and robust, we’ve added durability and stretch by combining it with elastane and an ultrafine nylon in Italy. And as shorts typically take more of a beating than shirts, we’ve woven more nylon into the cotton than we do with the shirt, to add more strength. The result is an advanced, lightweight material that feels extremely soft next to your skin.

Lightweight and breathable

As global temperatures rise and climate zones shift, clothes have to respond. That’s why the Equator Shorts are built to handle extreme heat. The material is highly breathable, which means sweat can escape fast. They’re also super lightweight at 230 grams, which makes them easy to wear or pack on any adventure.

The shorts are engineered with 332 laser-cut vents to keep you cool in the hottest places on the planet.

2 side pockets with hidden vents

The two side pockets are built with angled lockable zippers that fasten in position. And you’ll find the first set of hidden vents inside the pockets when you need to cool down. The laser-cut panels inside each pocket have 92 holes to create 184 mini air streams.

The 2 back pockets also have in-built vents

The zipped back pockets are built with the same hidden laser-cut panels that allow air in when you open them up. The pockets open and close with concealed lockable zippers and each panel here comes with 74 vents. You’ll also find a fifth pocket just above the right knee, with the opening concealed beneath a small storm flap along the seam.

The Equator Shorts are built from a rare, silk-like cotton that’s only found in the Nile Delta and only grows when the rain, soil and wind conditions are perfect.

Horizontal stretch

The last thing you want when you’re pulling any extreme or repetitive move in the heat is resistance from your kit. The Equator Shorts have two-way horizontal stretch, so whichever way you pull, turn or stretch, they will simply go with you.

An angled button cover and 5 belt loops

The fly fastens securely with a zipper and two buttons, one on the outside of the waistband and one on the inside. The outer button has an angled button cover, and the 60mm belt loops will work with almost any belt.

Size + Fit

The Equator Shorts are designed with a regular fit. If you’re on the borderline between two waist sizes, we recommend going for the smaller size.
