While the shape and design of the Planet Earth Moleskin Bomber can be traced back to the flight jackets worn by WWI fighter pilots, it’s made from an ultra soft yet strong Japanese moleskin that starts life in the humid floodplains of the Nile. The result is an incredibly soft, tailored jacket built with exceptional materials, components and craftsmanship.

Every jacket’s journey starts beside the River Nile before travelling through Japan and Italy’s most historic and prestigious mills. Phenomenally soft, durable, wind resistant and breathable, the jacket comes with a versatile waist-length fit, refined metal detailing, three secure pockets and an integrated ventilation system that runs across the upper back.

Grown in the floodplains of the River Nile

The cotton we use to make the outside of our Moleskin Bomber is so rare that it only grows in one place on Earth. Giza cotton only grows in the floodplains of the River Nile, where nutrient-rich soil, high humidity and a tonne of sunshine combine to create a fibre that’s exceptionally soft and strong.

Built with rare Giza cotton from the Nile Delta, the Moleskin Bomber is soft, strong, warm, and breathable.

Woven in Japan

After it’s grown in the Nile Delta we bring the Giza cotton to Kowa, a legendary Japanese mill who have been weaving exceptional materials for over 125 years. It’s here that the cotton is constructed into a smooth satin weave, before the outer surface is brushed to give it an incredibly soft suede-like feel.

The origins of the bomber jacket

The jacket’s shape and design can be traced back to the flight jackets worn by WWI fighter pilots. Operating in open-air cockpits, they needed jackets to protect them from the windchill as they flew through the troposphere at over 100mph. Later, as aircraft technology evolved, so did the jackets. They became lighter, more minimal, and many removed the thick shearling collars to make them more versatile.

The jacket’s shape and design can be traced back to the flight jackets first worn by WWI fighter pilots.

Built for fighter pilots and Hollywood

It wasn’t long before fighter pilots weren’t the only ones wearing bomber jackets. It was quickly adopted by counter-culture groups and Hollywood costume designers. So if you want to look like you’re stepping out of an F-14 Tomcat, or onto the set of Pulp Fiction, then a good bomber jacket is always a good idea.

Four upper back vents to keep you cool

You’ll find four hidden vents across the back of the jacket to help keep you cool in the heat. It’s a technical detail you wouldn’t normally find in a tailored jacket. They’re built with two layers of overlapping moleskin and securely anchored down with bartacks.

Detailing by Riri

The heavy-duty metal zipper that runs down the centre of the jacket is made by Riri, an historic Italian manufacturer famous for its high-spec metal components. Two angled side pockets fasten with concealed metal snaps. And there’s a concealed inside chest pocket that fastens with a metal Riri zipper. The funnel collar is secured with a single, strong metal snap.

An engineered knit at the cuffs and hem

The ultra soft cuffs and hem of the jacket are engineered with a raised knit pattern and a small amount of elastane for stretch. It means they grip around your wrists and waist just the right amount, so you’ll always feel comfortable.

Built with incredible attention to detail

Every jacket is built at one of the most advanced factories in the world – it’s the same factory that builds highly technical pieces like our Indestructible Puffer and Titan gear. Their technical capabilities and attention to detail mean they’re able to execute the construction with laser precision, creating the beautifully clean and robust lines of stitching that run throughout the jacket.
