We’re at a turning point in human history

The next 100 years won’t look like the last 100. As floods and fires sweep across countries, and we face life on Earth with new categories of ultraviolent weather, we’re going to need new categories of clothing. So we make gear that protects you from fires, megastorms, and a world that’s heating up.

As we begin to explore new worlds millions of miles from our own planet, we need to think about clothing in new ways. While spaceships, Mars Rovers and lunar landers are all designed to exist in space, the human body is not. Of all the systems that will be launched into the solar system over the next century, it’s the weakest and most fragile. So we’re going to need clothing to solve the complex questions that will arise as we go intergalactic.

For the last 5 years we’ve been experimenting with different ways to make colour that reduce the industry’s reliance on petroleum-based dyes. We’ve worked with everything from the world’s first black algae dye, to wood, to almonds, to minerals like celadonite and hematite, earth pigments like ochre, and even DNA.

We’re on the edge of a revolution. While clothes today still do the same things they did for early man – keeping you warm dry and cool – over the next century clothing will start to enhance our strength, sensory perception, intelligence, and life expectancy.
