Over 80% of the deep ocean remains unexplored. And you can see why. With sub zero temperatures, freaky alien-looking creatures, pressures that can crush steel, and the abyss, it’s not the most welcoming. Luckily it comes with some astonishing cold weather Special Forces tech, that we turned into a hoodie and vest.

In the freezing blackness of the North Sea and underneath the Arctic ice, a wetsuit isn’t going to keep you alive. For divers operating in the coldest, darkest and most hostile environments on Earth – where the water temperature drops below 10°C – the survival system of anyone who values their life is the drysuit.

An impermeable shell that creates a seal of warm air around the body, wearing a drysuit is a bit like wearing an actual seal. But at the heart of this underwater system you won’t find foam, rubber, or blubber. But fleece. Insanely thick, astonishingly warm, flexible, fleece. Naturally you’ll find the most badass drysuit fleece on the planet belongs to the British Special Forces – guys who don’t mind a bit of a splash about in some cold water. So we took their fleece – after asking them nicely – and turned it into the Deep Sea Diver Hoodie.

At 539 grams per square metre, this is the densest fleece we’ve ever used. And that means the Deep Sea Diver Hoodie traps more heat than any other hoodie we’ve made. It breathes, wicks, and is fast-drying and odour-resistant. Four-way elasticity means it bends, stretches and rebounds in any direction. We added egg-shaped pockets for warmth, and a double-lined snorkel hood creates a protective microclimate around your head, sealing in warmth and blocking out the elements.

Born for deep dives, rebuilt for surviving on land

Drysuits are survival systems for divers operating in the coldest, darkest and most hostile environments on Earth. When water temperatures drop below 10°C, a wetsuit isn’t enough to keep you alive. Drysuits seal the body in an impermeable shell and rely on layers of trapped air and insulation to retain warmth. At the heart of that system sits the same kind of thick, flexible fleece we use in the Deep Sea Diver Hoodie.

Built with the same fleece used inside military drysuits.

The heaviest fleece we’ve ever used

At 539 grams per square metre, this is the densest fleece we’ve ever used. And that means the Deep Sea Diver Hoodie traps more heat than any other hoodie we’ve made. It breathes, wicks, stretches and recovers. It’s also fast-drying, odour-resistant and retains its shape, even after repeated use.

At 539 grams per square metre, this is the thickest fleece we’ve ever used.

Engineered for total mobility

Every element of the Deep Sea Diver Hoodie is designed for performance. A two-way front zip with moleskin and faux-suede tape gives you ventilation control and comfort where your chin meets metal. The egg-shaped pockets are cover-stitched onto the shell for durability, while flatlock seams ensure strength and freedom of movement.

A microclimate for your head

The Deep Sea Diver Hoodie borrows its snorkel hood design from the cold-weather parkas developed for USAF aircrews in the 1950s. Designed to zip up into a narrow tunnel that shields your face from wind and freezing air, the original snorkel hoods helped pilots survive in conditions where exposure could kill in minutes. Our double-lined snorkel hood creates a protective microclimate around your head, sealing in warmth and blocking out the elements.

Soft inside and tough outside, this is deep sea insulation for dry land.

From the deep to the surface of the Earth

What began as a survival layer for divers working in freezing water has been rebuilt as a hoodie for extreme cold on land. The Deep Sea Diver Hoodie is the bridge between underwater technology and surface-level exploration – a fleece tough enough for the deep sea, and warm enough for the coldest day.
