After all, we survived for two million years without it. With many predicting wars over natural resources in the not-too-distant future, being disconnected from the production of everything we rely on for survival doesn’t feel like a great idea.

So our Off Grid range is built for a future in which you have to rebuild your life with your bare hands. Engineered from all-terrain cotton canvas, with reinforced stitching and pockets designed to help you survive off the land, our Off Grid Shorts are built to keep working when everything else fails.

These are tough, low-maintenance shorts

Every pair of Off Grid Shorts is built from a heavy-duty Italian cotton designed to balance strength and comfort. The material has the same kind of structure as the hard-wearing cotton canvas used to build military tents. It weighs 395g/m2, is incredibly densely woven, has a high tensile strength, and scores 5/5 in abrasion resistance tests. But because it’s cotton it’s soft and breathable next to your skin.

Six lines of reinforced stitching

The bottom hem of the Off Grid Shorts is insanely reinforced with six lines of thick stitching. That’s not the kind of detailing you’ll normally find in a pair of shorts. It’s a method of stitching normally reserved for military tents and mountaineering backpacks which need to survive in extreme environments and on expeditions. So if you've swapped out the sofa for a fallen tree trunk, your shorts aren’t going to wear out.

Elasticated rope-tied waistband

The shorts are built with an elasticated rope-tied waistband, so they work like sweatpants. The ends of the rope are finished with macramé knots, an ancient ‘square knotting’ technique dating back to Babylonian times. There were no grids back then. The fly is a concealed zipper. And we’ve added 5 belt loops if you need to secure your shorts even tighter.

Built for comfort in any season

Building the Off Grid Shorts from heavy-duty cotton means that they feel most like soft denim. The shorts are also soft and unstructured to give you freedom of movement. The cotton will keep you warm in winter and cool and comfortable in summer. And if your clothes washing routine has reduced down to a bowl of hot water once in a while, these are low-maintenance shorts that are easy to clean, easy to dry, and hard to damage.

Two giant pouch pockets on the front of the pants

The pockets on our Off Grid Shorts are built for versatility. Two huge front pockets act as storage pouches that can handle maps, tools, flasks or spare kit. There are two large side pockets. And you’ll find two more concealed pockets just above the knees that are covered with a canvas storm flap.

Two more pockets at the back

On the back of the shorts there are two more pockets. Just like the front and side pockets they’re protected by storm flaps and fasten shut with heavy-duty metal snap fasteners designed to last. In between the two back pockets you’ll find four gadget loops so you can attach equipment like firelighters, paracord or a multitool.
