Planet Earth Hat

The Planet Earth Hat is built with a cutting-edge Swiss material that’s fireproof, water repellent, wind resistant, fast drying and woven with carbon fibre ripstop. We’ve also fitted it with a removable sunshield to protect you from UV rays, 36 concealed vents keep you cool in hot and humid environments, and 16 gadget loops to carry essentials.

The hat is engineered from an advanced Swiss-made ripstop fabric originally designed for the military. It's 47% Kanecaron – a modacrylic fibre made in Japan that’s known for its softness and incredible fire resistant properties. Not only is it hard to ignite, but it's also self-extinguishing – which means that the fibres create a char barrier when the fire source is removed, stopping flames from spreading further.

Carbon fibre is one of the lightest and strongest structural materials in the world. So it’s normally found in supercars, missiles and jet engines, not hats. To engineer the Planet Earth Hat we start with ultra thin carbon fibre filaments which we wrap around elastane thread and then weave into the base fabric, creating an advanced ripstop that reinforces the hat by increasing its tensile strength, elasticity, and abrasion resistance.

The Planet Earth Hat is also engineered with 36 vents to keep you cool in hot and humid environments. The vents are concealed and layered over each other so that water runs off them. They’re also pinned down with bartacks for strength. We’ve lined the inside of the hat with a soft, breathable mesh. It combines with the vents to allow air to flow through, while keeping dust and insects out.

The boonie hat has been worn by elite military and long-range reconnaissance patrols in the world’s most extreme environments for over 80 years. Designed to camouflage soldiers while protecting them from intense heat, sandstorms and monsoon rains, it’s been adapted for every possible climate. So we’ve taken it and built one of the most technical and versatile hats ever created to see you through any jungle, desert, mountain, beach, trail or city on Earth.

Our Planet Earth Hat is finished with Schoeller’s 3XDRY® tech, a two-part fabric treatment that applies a PFC-free water resistant coating to the outer face and a hydrophilic coating to the inner face. It means water and dirt roll off the outside, while sweat is absorbed and rapidly wicked away from the inside – helping you stay dry whether it’s hot and humid, or pouring with rain.

The original boonie hats came with woven loops called ‘branch loops’ that soldiers could stuff with plants to camouflage themselves better. The Planet Earth Hat comes equipped with 16 loops that let you attach equipment like lighters, paracord, or small torches. You’ll find 6 darker-coloured elastic bungee loops on either side of the hat, with 2 larger woven loops layered on top. The elastic loops sit tight against your head so you can lock your sunglasses to your hat, or anything else you want to keep up there.

Over the last 6 years we’ve been asked to make hats for hot weather, cold weather, rain, wind, insects, jungles, deserts, cities, mountains, beaches, monsoons and heatwaves. And with global weather now doing pretty much anything, anytime, anywhere, it’s why we’ve built our Planet Earth Hat to cope with whatever the world throws at you.
